Ephs move up to 2nd in D3Hoops.com national poll

MINNEAPOLIS, MN  -- Mike Maker's Williams College men's basketball team (7-0) will take to the court tonight in Chandler Gym at 7:30 PM to battle Hamilton College (4-1), having moved up from 5th in the D3Hoops.com national poll to 2nd.

Twelve of the 25 teams ranked by D3hoops.com sport undefeated records. The Ephs are one of six New England teams ranked and one of three NESCAC teams (Middlebury (5) and Amherst (20).

Six teams received first place votes with top-ranked Wooster College (OH) collecting a dozen votes as #1. The Ephs were ranked first on 5 ballots, while #3 Virginia Wesleyan and #4 Wisconsin-Stevens Point each received 3 and #7 Whitworth and #11 Wabash each received 1.

Junior guard James Wang who received NESCAC Player of the Week honors yesterday is one of three Ephs averaging double figures in points. Wang is scoring 19.6 a game, while senior center Troy Whittington averages 16.7 and sophomore shooting forward James Klemm nets 14.1.

Wang also leads the Ephs in minutes (30.0), assists (4.1), steals and contributes 4.6 rebounds a game. Whittington, a force on the inside on both ends of the floor, averages team-highs in rebounds (9.1) and blocks (3.0).

Klemm averages 3.9 made three pointers a contest.

The Ephs own a scoring margin of 27.6 and their rebound margin is 12.1 through the first seven contests.

After hosting Hamilton tonight the Ephs will take to the road for an afternoon game at Springfield College on Saturday to close out the fall portion of their schedule.
