Senior guard James Wang has been named to the 2011-12 preseason First-Team All-American list announced by D3hoops.com. Returning after a Third-Team All-American honor last season, Wang helped lead the Ephs to a 29-3 overall record and a 9-0 record in conference play during 2010-11.
Over the course of three years, Wang has accrued 1,182 points, placing him sixteenth on the all-time scoring list at Williams. He has achieved back-to-back 500-point scoring seasons, totaling 1,143 points.
Wang led the Ephs in seven individual statistical categories last season: total points (589), scoring average (18.4 points/ game), total assists (105), free throws made (129), field goal attempts (391), field goals made (189), and turnovers (99).
As a sophomore Wang began to exhert his influence, placing second on the team in total points (554), scoring average (17.3 points/game), free throws made (105), field goal attempts (342), and field goals made (190), only behind former teammate and two-time All-American Blake Schultz.
His dedication has not gone unrewarded. On top of a Third Team national listing, Wang was a First Team All-NESCAC member for the past two seasons, as well as Second Team honoree on the ECAC-New England list in 2011. The 2010-11 Ephs made it to the NCAA Tournament semifinals before losing to Wooster College.
Wang was a starting guard during the 2009-10 season when the Ephs were NESCAC Champions, and participants in the NCAA Tournament Championship game. The men lost one regular season game that year, ending with a 30-2 overall record.
Wang and the rest of the men's basketball team will begin play on November 18th, kicking off their home season schedule with the Williams Invitational held at Chandler Gymnasium. The Ephs will face Southern Vermont at 8:00 PM.
