WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Five members of first year Williams' men's crew head coach Marc Mandel's 2018 Eph team earned All-NESCAC honors.
Mandel's Ephs closed out the season with a fifth place finish in the National Invitational Rowing Championships on May 11 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., resulting in a second place finish in NESCAC.
The Eph Varsity I also captured a bronze medal at the New England Championships.
All five honored Ephs are member of the Eph Varsity I boat.
"Jarrett proved over and over in practice that he was the best stroke for the varsity," said Mandel. "His coach-ability through the year has been readily apparent, as he made many positive technical changes that translated well to the rest of the crew."
"Sam has been a mainstay in seven seat in the varsity for us this spring," noted Mandel. "His leadership and ability to facilitate rhythm were extremely beneficial to a relatively young crew."
"Drew's work ethic is second to none and he made tremendous progress through the year rowing five seat in the varsity," remarked Mandel. "I'm excited to see what he can do with one more year of rowing at Williams."
Both Ephs named to the Second Team, Karl Bocker and Devin Flynn are seniors, which means that unfortunately three of the five honored Eph rowers this year will not be returning to the program next year.
"Karl embraced the process of getting stronger and more technically proficient throughout the entire year and is without a doubt our most improved oarsman," said Mandel. "The Varsity I picked up noticeable speed late in the season when we moved Karl into six seat."
"As our varsity coxswain, Devin brought an intensity and businesslike demeanor to each and every practice," Mandel commented. 'At both the NERC and NIRC Regattas, Devin proved his significant value to the program by guiding our bow-ball ahead in two very close finishes."
