Clinton, NY- The Williams College Ephs (6-5/3-4 NESCAC) defeated the Hamilton Continentals (3-9/1-7 NESCAC) 15-9 in today's matchup on Withiam Field on the campus of Hamilton College.
Winning the first face-off of the game, Hamilton took control of the game by netting the first goal by Jack Gaul in the first four minuets. Williams soon answered back with a goal by Kevin Stump assisted by Thomas Fowler. The Ephs quickly scored once more by an awesome shot from Michael Fahey assisted once more by Thomas Fowler. Williams continued the scoring streak with goals from John Hinks, Michael Fahey and Thomas Fowler to end a stellar first quarter with the Ephs up 5-1.
The Ephs continued this momentum in the next quarter and soon found the ball in the back of the net by Thomas Fowler with his second goal of the game. Hamilton broke the six goal streak with a score from Jack Gaul, assisted by Christian Donahue with 10:30 left. With four minuets left in the first half of the game, Michael Fahey found himself two goals within ten seconds to give the Ephs a 8-2 lead at halftime.
Hamilton came out of halftime with some great and tenacious behavior on defense not allowing a score for the first five minuets. With a 30 second offsides penalty on Williams, Hamilton was allowed a man up opportunity which translated into a goal for the Continentals by Dan Cahill assisted from Will Gabriel. Within the next minuet, the Ephs scored a goal by freshman Brendan Hoffman giving back Williams the six point lead. Both teams found themselves with one more goal each before the third quarter ended from Chad Morse for Hamilton and Kevin Stump for Williams. The score at the end of the third was Williams up 10-4.
In the first three minuets of the fourth quarter, Williams was able to hold onto the ball which allowed them to score the first two goals of the final quarter by Michael Fahey and Duncan Cummings. With a great clear from the Continentals, Casey Kopp was able to find himself a goal shortening the deficit to 7. In under a minuet and a half, the Ephs netted three goals by John Hinks, Duncan Cummings and once again Michael Fahey bringing back the lead to 15-5.
Hamilton let this be short lived and scored a goal from Chad Morse on a man up for the Continentals. Hamilton soon found themselves on a four goal scoring streak and saw goals from Michael Alderman and Will Gabreil. With twenty seconds left in the final quarter, Hamilton scored a goal from Chad Morse once more, giving the Ephs the victory of 15-9.
The Continentals were lead by Attackman Chad Morse with three goals followed by Jack Gaul with two goals. The Ephs were led by captain Michael Fahey with an amazing six goals.
The Ephs during this game saw two goalies, Goerge Peele playing 53 minuets with 11 saves, and Daniel Powell making his debut with 4 saves. The Continentals also used two goalies the game. Noah Weissmann saw the first half of the game with 7 saves, while John Schisler took the cage in the second half and had 12 saves.
The Ephs return to action this coming Saturday at Colby for another NESCAC matchup at 1pm. The Hamilton Continentals will next play on Saturday also when they host Connecticut College at 4:30pm.
