MOBILE, AL – On Friday, Williams College men's tennis duo Matt Micheli and Trey Meyer won the Division III doubles championship at the USTA/ITA National Small Colleges Championships by beating Whitman's Andrew Le Cava and James Rivers. As the Division III doubles winners, Ephs qualified to play in the "Super Bowl" Championship, along with the winners from other divisions.
However Micheli and Meyer were eliminated in the first round of the Super Bowl when they lost to , against Armstrong's Georgi Rumenov and Daniel Regan, 6-1, 6-1. Rumenov has a chance on Sunday to become just the third palyer in the history of the event to win both the Super Bowl singles and doubles titles.
Commenting on the match Eph head cach Dan Greenberg stated, "They [Rumenov & Regan] were too good. We needed to make more first serves, but we didn't and they took advantage of that and really made us pay. The good news is we had a great fall and and now we can learn a lot from this match. Matt and Trey should be proud."
Lining up for the first time as a doubles team this fall, Meyer and Micheli posted a 9-1 record and look to be the Ephs' top tandem come the spring portion of the schedule.
