KALAMAZOO, MI. — Williams College senior Trey Meyer saw his run in the 2013 NCAA Div. III Singles Tournament come to an end today when he dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Aaron Skinner of Trinity (Tx.) College in the quarterfinals at Stowe Stadium's courts.

Meyer, senior co-captain of the national champion Ephs, advanced to the quarterfinals with two straight set wins indoors Thursday, first defeating Eric Koenig of the University of California Santa Clara, 6-4, 6-3. In the Round of 16, Meyer faced off with Ryan Kreis of Wheaton (Ill.) College, where he won the first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker and finished off the match with a 6-3 win of the second set.

Meyer and Skinner had battled Monday in the quarterfinals of the men's team tournament, a 5-1 Williams win. The two number ones did not finish their match, but Meyer had a 6-4, 5-4 lead when the team match ended.

But Friday, Skinner went on an early run winning three straight games to take a 5-2 lead in the first set and then finished it off 6-3. Following the same pattern in the second set, Meyer won the first game and the third to take a 2-1 lead, but four straight wins from Skinner made it 5-2 and the Trinity leader put Meyer away 6-3 to end it.

The loss ended Meyer's career at Williams. He journeyed from a first year that was nine or 10 on the Ephs' depth chart, according to Ephs' head coach Dan Greenberg, to a senior year that saw him earned All-American status at singles, be named the ITA Northeast Region Player of the Year and, of course, cap his career with a team national championship. the Ephs' first since 2002.

"I don't know if you could have a better senior year," Greenberg said. "He started out nine or 10 for us as a first year, but slowly, with great work ethic, became one of the best players in the country and definitely the best leader in the country. Amazing."

Also, in doubles play late Thursday night, Meyer and teammate Alex Schidlovsky dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Daniel Brown and Ryan Ybarra of Texas-Tyler, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
