Ephs finish off regular season with solid 6-1 win over Colby

WATERVILLE, ME — On Sunday, the Williams College men's tennis concluded their regular season with a match away against Colby, earning a comfortable 6-1 victory over the Mules, thanks in large part to a clean sweep of all three doubles points and strong singles play. With the victory, the Ephs finalize their regular season record at 14-5 (NESCAC 7-2), while the Mules drop to 12-7 (NESCAC 3-5) for their season thus far.

The Ephs started out the match in the best way possible by managing to snag all three points during the doubles portion, digging a hole that would prove to be insurmountable for the Mules. Eph senior Matt Micheli and freshman Conrad Harron dismissed the freshman Mule combination of Vlad Murad and Carl Reid 8-3, mere minutes before Eph sophomore Jose Raventos and freshman Rohan Shastri dealt the knockout blow to the senior Mule duo of Jack Bryant and Matt Carroll, winning their match 8-4 at the number two position. The match at three-doubles was slightly closer as the other senior Mule pairing of Luke Martin and Jason Ottomano kept the Eph sophomore combo of Brian Astrachan and Alexander Schidlovsky close right up until the end, when Astrachan and Schidlovsky managed to just pull away and claim the final doubles point.

It was more of the same for the Ephs in singles, as Shastri was first off the court at three-singles against senior Mule Sam Bacchelder, winning 6-3, 6-1, and his victory was followed shortly thereafter by both Schidlovsky and Weiss, who won 6-0, 6-2 at the four position and 6-4, 6-2 at the five position respectively. The Mules, however, would get on the board with the final match that finished, as Reid was able to down Micheli 7-5, 6-4, bringing the final sore to 6-1 in favor of the Ephs.

After the match, Eph head coach Dan Greenberg noted the team's stronger start in singles: "We started a little sluggish in doubles, but we eventually found our rhythm and closed out all three courts. We also started much better in singles which is something we've talked about, so overall it was a good match and weekend. We're looking forward to the postseason.

This match concluded the regular season for the Ephs, and they await the schedule for next weekends NESCAC tournament, which will be held on the campus of Bowdoin College.
