La Crosse, WI—The men's track and field team brought it home today on Day Three of the NCAA Championships. The Ephs finished 11th overall in a very competitive field, scoring 17 points.

Tristan Colaizzi '20 got things started for the Ephs in the 1500 meter run. Colaizzi was the last qualifier to this meet, and the last automatic qualifier to the finals, but he did far more than just enjoy the experience. The sophomore ran a tactically intelligent race, running the shortest distance on the inside of lane 1, passing on the inside when possible, and responding as best he could to the moves made. After a slow start, Colaizzi ran his penultimate lap in 60 in his last lap in 59 to finish 8th overall in 3:55.79, earning All-America honors and scoring a point for the Ephs.

Kevin LaFleche '20 saw Colaizzi and raised him one in the finals of the 800. The sophomore looked to be well off the pack with 200 meters to go, but mustered a furious charge as he approached the home straightaway, passing a competitor at the line to finish 7th in 1:54.80, earning All-America honors for the second straight season and scoring two points for the Ephs.

Closing out the meet for the Ephs, Griffin Colaizzi '18 competed in the finals of the 5000 meter run. Competing in extremely hot and muggy conditions, Colaizzi ran with grit and heart, finishing in 15:22.74 for 15th. Colaizzi has had a tremendous career for the Ephs, and will be greatly missed.

At the end of the meet, the Ephs stood 11th overall, with 17 points. Head Coach Ethan Barron was very pleased with how the team performed, saying, "that was the conclusion of a great season. I'll tell you one thing, this team knows how to battle. It doesn't matter who is on the line next to us, we're going to make you bring your best. And I will happily go to a meet with a team like that any day."

This meet concludes the 2017-18 season for Williams Track and Field. The Ephs will return to competition as a running program on September 8 at the Little Three Cross Country Championship. The track team will return to competition in December.
