Ephs will host NCAA Regional May 12-14; open play vs. Thomas

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Prior to 2014, the Williams College softball team had never hosted an NCAA Regional Tournament. Today it was announced the Ephs have earned the right for a fourth consecutive season. 

The NESCAC Champions — Williams has won back-to-back conference titles — will welcome Thomas College (14-21), RPI (25-12) and The College of Staten Island (34-7) for the double-elimination tournament beginning Friday, May 12th and running through Sunday, May 14th. 

On Friday the 12th play will begin at 1 p.m. with RPI taking on Staten Island in Game 1. At 3:30 p.m., host Williams (31-10) will take on Thomas in Game 2. Three games will be played on Saturday and at least one on Sunday.

11:00 a.m. -- Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2
1:30 p.m. -- Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2
4:00 p.m. -- Winner of Game 4 vs. Loser of Game 3
Sunday
12:00 p.m. -- Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner Game 5
If necessary Game 7 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Ticket prices will be $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for children under 12. 

The teams will be playing to advance to one of eight best two-out-of-three Super Regionals (May 19-21) where the winner will move on to the Division III Finals in Oklahoma City, OK May 25-30.

Williams will be making its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh overall. The Ephs defeated Amherst 9-1 in the sixth and deciding game of the NESCAC Tournament Sunday. Thomas (14-21) won the NAC championship Sunday with a 2-0 win over Castleton University. The last time Thomas won a NAC Softball Championship was in 2004 and it will be the first time the Terriers play in the NCAA Tournament.

Staten Island (34-7) is making its 10th trip to the NCAA National Championship after having won consecutive tournament games in 2016 & 2017. The Dolphins have never faced any of the teams involved in this year's regional at Williams. The Dolphins won their fifth CUNYAC title in a row with a 5-0 win over Hunter College Sunday.

RPI is a member of the Liberty League, and finished 25-12 this season, winning the conference with a 9-0 victory against Clarkson University. The NCAA Tournament appearance is the third in program history and first since 2006. RPI is 3-4 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, going 2-2 in 2000 and 1-2 in 2006.
