SUN VALLEY, ID – They tried, but the rest of the field of 49 runners could not catch Eph sophomore standout Nordic skier Will Wicherski (Boise [HS] ID) as he topped the field at the recent running of the Wood River [ID] YMCA Dollar Mountain 10-kilometer Trail Run.
To be good in the winter in Nordic skiing it is incumbent upon top competitors to train over the summer months. Purposeful training is oftentimes even more effective.
"Will had a great season last year (qualifying for World Junior Championships and finishing 11th at the NCAA's) but he is looking to improve in both events and is on an aggressive training plan to accomplish these goals," noted Eph Nordic head coach Bud Fisher. "His Idaho trial run results indicate to me that his training is paying dividends."
Wicherski not only won the 10K race, he set a course record with a time of 47:57.
