Ephs open spring trip with 17-5 win over Wellesley
CLERMONT, Fla. — The Williams College women's lacrosse team rolled out to a 9-0 lead Monday and never looked back, opening its spring break trip with a 12-1 win over Wellesley College.
The Ephs improved to 3-1 on the season. They'll play the Savannah College of Art and Design Wednesday at 2 p.m. back at the National Training Center.
"I thought we handled the ball well, we executed well and we played tough defense," Ephs head coach Chris Mason said. "We got to play everybody and everybody contributed to the win, so that was nice."
Six different Ephs scored two goals each. Sophomores Hilary Cook and Nancy Palmer had two goals and two assists each in the victory. Rebecca McGovern, Maeve Mulholland, Molly Belk and Anne Rehfuss also had two goals each.
First-year Corey Michon started in goal for the first time at Williams and made two saves on the day. Sophomore Mahaney Sippel also got a start at defense and later moved to midfield. Mason was pleased with both women's performances.
Palmer got the Ephs going, scoring twice in the first 90 seconds of the game, both on assists from Bridget Malicki. Sam Weinstein followed with an unassisred goal, Emily Whicker scored off an assist from Stephanie Gallo and McGovern scored the first of her two to make it 5-0 before five minutes had gone by.
Meredith Roy scored for Wellesley to break the streak for the Ephs, but they answered with addidtional tallies by halftime to extend the lead to 12-1.
