Malicki Leads Ephs to Sixth Straight Victory, 16-4 over Castleton State

CASTLETON, Vt. — Bridget Malicki had six points , including four goals, and Maeve Mulholland added three others as the No. 12 ranked Williams College women's lacrosse team rung up its sixth straight victory with a 16-4 win over Castleton State Thursday afternoon.

The Ephs improved to 8-1 on the season, they will face Little Three rival Wesleyan Saturday in Middletown, Ct. at noon.

"They pressed us pretty well," Ephs' head coach Chris Mason said. "They played very aggressive defense and made us turn the ball over a number of times. We worked hard to win it back and eve though their goaltender was outstanding, were able to convert a lot of our scoring opportunities."

The Ephs dashed out to a 6-0 lead with 11:22 remaining in the first half helped by two goals each from Malicki and Stephanie Gallo. Hilary Cook scored two goals of her own before half and Williams went into the breal leading 9-2.

The Ephs extended that to 11-2 early in the second stanza on goals from Mulholland and Nancy Palmer, but the Spartans scored twice to make it 11-4 before Williams scored the final five goals of the contest to account for the final score.

"We were able to get everybody in the game, whcih was nice," Mason said. "Like I said, they were athletic and quick and they challenged us, so this was a good outcome. We got a lot out of it."

Ali Piltch made three saves for the Ephs. In addition to her two goals, Gallo had five groundballs and five turnovers. Molly Belk and Courtney McLaughlin had four groundballs each for the Ephs. Cook had three draw controls.

The Ephs outshot the Spartans, 41-10.
