MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Williams College Wrestling team continued their rigorous competitive schedule today.  The Ephs traveled to Wesleyan University to take on three opponents in consecutive matches.  The competitors included Wesleyan University, The State University of New York at Oneonta, and third ranked Ithaca College.  Action began this morning and ran throughout the day.

Amidst tough competition, Williams Wrestling was edged out in each of their matches.  Head Coach Scott Honecker commented on the teams' effort: "We saw great competition today.  As we start our three week peaking process for the regional tournament, this was a good test to challenge us and continue to improve.  We will peak physically over the next three weeks.  Our best wrestling is ahead of us."

The Ephs began the day against the hosts Wesleyan College.  Senior Matt Morris and Junior Ben Morton started the day off strong with two consecutive wins at the 125 and 133 pound weight divisions respectively.  Morris and Morton's 4-1 and 3-1 decision wins, gave the Ephs a quick 6-0 lead.

The Cardinals recorded a close 4-3 victory at 141 pounds to bring the score to 6-3.  Junior Brendon Seyfried responded with a strong 5-2 success to extend the lead to 8-3.  Wesleyan followed suit with another win at the 157 weight division to cut the lead to one, at 8-7.  Sophmore Yo Akiyama's dominant 2:27 pin opened another lead at 14-7.  Unfortunately, the Cardinals managed to capture the rest of the matches.

After a second half of close matches, Wesleyan University defeated Williams College 26-14.

In their third and final match of the day the Wrestling Ephs took on number three ranked Ithaca College.  The Bombers came into the match up 2-0 on the day after defeating SUNY Oneonta 33-6, and Wesleyan 36-9.

Currently ranked 6th in New England, Sophmore Brendon Seyfried completed his undefeated record for the day with an impressive ten second pin over a Wesleyan opponent who was ranked three places above him at 3rd.  His victory led the match for the Ephs.  Regrettably, his six points were the only ones Williams was able to take against Ithaca.

After a series of well fought matches Ithaca College downed Williams College 43-6.
