5 Eph Women Named All-NESCAC in Tennis; Alison Swain Coach of the Year

HADLEY, MA – The Williams College women's tennis team (19-2) and undefeated in NESCAC in the regular season (7-0) has placed five players on the 2012 All-NESCAC team. In addition, head coach Alison Swain '01 was named the NESCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in her 5-year tenure in the Purple Valley.

First team Eph honorees this spring include senior Kristin Alotta, sophomores Kathleen Elkins and Kara Shoemaker. Alotta was accorded First Team honors in both singles and doubles play, while Elkins captured doubles honors and Shoemaker was recognized for her excellent singles play.

Named to the NESCAC Second Team were Shoemaker (doubles), senior Taylor French (doubles), and junior Nancy Worley who was named to the singles team.

Previously Alotta earned Second Team singles honors in 2009; First Team singles and Second Team doubles and was also a First Team singles selection in 2011.

French was named Second Team doubles in 2009 and was a First Team honoree in 2010.

Nancy Worley was first honored by NESCAC in 2011 when she was selected to the Second Team in singles.

Elkins was a Second Team singles choice in 2011, while Shoemaker was honored for the first time this year.

Next up for the Ephs is a Second Round match in the NCAA Tournament on their home courts – The Torrence Hunt Tournament Courts on Saturday at 1:30 pm when they will face the winner of the First Round match between Elizabethtown and Endicott.

The Ephs are in search of their fifth consecutive NCAA title.
