AMHERST, MA – As the first day of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) came to a close today, the Ephs came out with a perfect record, winning all three matches 3-0. The real story however, was senior Taylor French being honored with the prestigious Lindsay Morehouse Award.
Presented every year at NEWITT, the cup acknowledges one senior who demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, friendship, and a love of tennis - characteristics that Morehouse exemplified. After conferring with their respective athletes, the coaches from all 17 schools participating vote for the recipient. The award is named after a 2000 Williams graduate, and outstanding tennis player, who passed away in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
The connection to Williams makes this award all the more meaningful. The last time a Williams student won it was in 2009 when Grace Baljon '10 was the recipient.
Head coach Alison Swain attested to the significance of the occasion and the deservingness of French, "Taylor's really honoured to received the Morehouse award. She is a really positive influence on the team. I'm very excited for her."
The tournament continues tomorrow and full results can be found here.
