HADLEY, MA -- Williams College junior tennis player Maria Pylypiv (Weatogue, CT) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for her role in the Ephs' two wins over nationally ranked opponents last week.
On Wednesday afternoon the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named Pylypiv the New England DIII Player of the Week.
Pylypiv won both her singles and doubles matches this week against #5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and #8 Middlebury. Pylypiv and senior doubles partner Kathleen Elkins (Davidson, N.C.) notched a key win at No. 2 doubles against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, where Williams came out of doubles down, 1-2. She then went on to tally the first singles win in the same match to even the score at 2-2 before Williams went on to claim a 6-3 victory.
Pylypiv is currently a combined 16-0 this spring in singles (8-0) and doubles (8-0) play. Overall this season Pylypiv has compiled a record of 19-3 in singles and teaming with Elkins the pair has recorded a doubles ledger of 18-3.
"Maria has done a nice job setting the tone for the team this year, both in terms of her wins and her energy on court," said Eph head coach Alison Swain. "She's consistently been one of the first singles matches off the court giving her teammates confidence knowing that she has taken care of her court."
