Ephs continue strong showing at NEWITTs
AMHERST, MA – After the second day of NEWITTs action, three Eph pairs remain.
Entering the round of 16, all 5 Williams teams were competing. The three teams that advanced cruised through their matches, all winning 3-0. Unfortunately, matched up against the Amherst 1 team, Williams 4 lost 0-3. And although our Eph Annika Trapness held her own, winning her singles match, the combo Tufts/Williams team fell to Simmons 2, 2-1.
The quarter finals held a bit more excitement for Williams than previous rounds. Although, Williams 1 continued to cruise, Williams 3, the pair of Linda Shin and Alex Stone, seeded 4th in the A draw, battled hard to earn their victory against Amherst 2. They won 2-1, with both singles in that match going into tie-breakers. Williams 2 will be rounding out the 3 Williams teams advancing, as they defeated MIT 1, 3-0.
With only 4 teams left, and 3 of them being Williams teams, inevitably there will be some inter-team competition. Williams 1 will play Williams 3 in one semi-final, while Williams 2 will play Amherst 1 in the other. This, however, guarantees that Williams will be represented in the finals.
"It's really exciting to have 3 teams in the semis," said coach Alison Swain, "We're really showing depth and determination in this tournament and are looking forward to tomorrow."
The semi-final round will begin tomorrow at 9am at Mount Holyoke College.
