WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Day two of the annual Lindsay Morehouse Invitational took place on Saturday, September 16. Williams, Skidmore, Wellesley, and Middlebury all saw playing time on the day totaling 36 matches in both singles and doubles. The Morehouse Invitational now features a more team-oriented format such that each school plays their rounds of singles and doubles in the tournament in unison against an opponent so that all players from a school can be competing at the same time on adjacent courts.

Williams played ten total singles matches against Skidmore on the day as well as four doubles matches against Middlebury, six singles against Wellesley, and one doubles match against Skidmore. Overall, Head Coach Anik Cepeda was excited by what she saw from her players on the second day of the Fall season.

"Today we capitalized well on our opportunity to sustain focused energy," said Cepeda. "The vibe at the Tennis Center felt purposeful and collected on every Eph court."

That focused energy paid dividends for the Ephs as they mustered a 20-1 record overall including a 10 match sweep of Skidmore in singles. Senior Julia Cancio swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 as did sophomore Emily Zheng. Korina Neveux '19, meanwhile, cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.  The three first-years Sasha Cayward, Rachel Cross, and Ksoosha (xoo-sha) Ramras also secured wins against Skidmore.

The Ephs continued their singles success against Wellesley later in the day sweeping 6 matches. Mia Gancayco '18 overcame her opponent 6-0, 6-0 while fellow senior captain Juli Raventos locked in her win 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, the Ephs went 4-1. Senior/freshman duo Raventos and Cayward defeated their Middlebury opponents by a score of 8-4. Chloe Henderson '20 and Leah Bush '19 also added doubles wins alongside their teammates Cross and Zheng. The only Williams loss on the day came in the final of four doubles matches against Middlebury as Neveux and Gancayco fell to first-year duo Emily Bian and Ann Martin Skelly. The Ephs ended doubles on a high note, however, as Cancio and Ramras played a match against Skidmore opponents winning 8-0.

"There were too many favorite moments to list them all," said coach Cepeda, "We're looking forward to the matches tomorrow!"

Play is set to begin at 9:00 AM ET on Sunday. This will mark the conclusion of the three day Morehouse Invitational, named in honor of Lindsay Morehouse, a class of 2000 graduate and former tennis captain who tragically died in New York City on September 11th, 2001.
