WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The annual Lindsay Morehouse Invitational wrapped up today as players from Williams, Skidmore, Wellesley, and Middlebury all saw time on the court. Williams squared off against Skidmore in three singles matches and three doubles matches, Middlebury for six singles, and Wellesley for three doubles. Overall, Williams went 13-2 on the day, the two losses coming against Middlebury in singles matches.

"Today was a mental test on so many levels," said Head Coach Anik Cepeda. "Middlebury played tough and fought hard from start to finish - well done to their whole squad for a great match and a solid tournament."

Korina Neveux '19, Ksoosha (xoo-sha) Ramras '21, and Emily Zheng '20 got the day started with three wins against Skidmore opponents in singles. Zheng managed a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Against Middlebury, senior captain Juli Raventos bounced back from a 5-7 loss in the first set to even the score with a 6-3 win in the second set. However, Panthers sophomore Catherin Blayze battled to an 11-9 win in the third set to secure the match. First-years Rachel Cross and Sasha Cayward both dropped their first sets 4-6 before bouncing back with a 6-3 victory in their second sets before ultimately emerging victorious. Chloe Henderson '20 and Mia Gancayco '18 also secured singles victories against Middlebury. Sophomore Panther Maddi Stow overcame a first set loss to senior Julia Cancio to secure Middlebury's second win of the day.

Williams managed a six match sweep in doubles. Junior Leah Bush paired up with Zheng to lock down an 8-3 win while senior/first-year team of Raventos and Cayward overcame their opponents 8-1. Cancio and Neveux earned the 1-0 (retired) win.

In total, 70 matches were played over the course of the weekend, and Williams participated in 43 of them. Coach Cepeda applauded her team's endurance at the end of the long weekend. "I'm proud of our grit," she said, "Especially on the last morning of the Invitational when so much tennis has already been played. We bounced back from deficits on several courts today. That's huge."

Each year, at the conclusion of the Lindsay Morehouse Invitational, Williams College presents the Lindsay Morehouse Award to acknowledge "a senior player who represents the ideals of sportsmanship, friendliness, character, fair play, and hard work that Lindsay represented." Lindsay Morehouse '00 was a former Ephs tennis captain who was tragically killed in the New York City terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.

This year, the award went to Middlebury senior Molly Paradies.

With the conclusion of the Morehouse Invitational, the Ephs turn their attention to a dual match with Amherst on September 23rd beginning at 1:00 PM at home.
