Williamstown, Mass. -- After dropping the first match of the weekend to first ranked Bowdoin 2-3 last night, the Williams College volleyball team (13-7) played a double-header against Bates and Colby. The Ephs earned wins in both matches, defeating the Bobcats 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-19) and the Mules 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15).
Match one against Bates set the tone for the rest of the day. The team played well and kept a considerable lead over the Bobcats. Junior Hailey Eagon finished out set one with a five-serve streak while blocks and kills from Eagon, sophomore Claire Miller, and a few from freshman Callie Kiernan secured victory in set two. Miller finished the match with nine total kills, freshman Raea Rasmussen pounded eight, freshman Emily O'Day contributed ten digs, and freshman setter Amanda Schott picked up 14 digs and 34 aces.
Coming off of the first win, the Ephs got to a slow start against Colby. Despite a couple nice blocks by Eagon and service ace from McKinnon, the Ephs suffered a tough loss to the Mules, 19-25. However, the team bounced back and took three straight sets for the win. Miller dominated the front row with 18 kills and 16 digs, and sophomore Emily Baratta got in 13 kills. On the defensive side, senior Ali McKinnon managed 13 digs.
Head Coach Christi Kelsey was very proud of her team, saying that today was "a good day for us to bounce back from last night. We picked up two really important conference wins." The team was able to make use of the full roster this weekend, to which coach said she was "proud all twelve girls contributed in all our matches this weekend."
The Ephs will travel to MIT next weekend to participate in the MIT Quad Tournament.
