SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) announced today its recipients of the NEWVA Academic Team Award. Fourteen teams earned the honor, attaining a team-average of at least a 3.30 GPA during the fall semester.
The NEWVA Academic Team Award was established in 2008 to recognize the hard work and dedication of the teams' student-athletes off the court and in the classroom. Twenty-seven percent of all member programs qualified for the prestigious award marking the largest percentage since the award's introduction.
Williams head coach Christi Kelsey, now in her third year, has seen her Ephs recognized all three years she has been at the Eph helm. Only four teams have received the honor all four years and all four of those teams are NESCAC members: Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Middlebury and Williams.
"We are happy to be honored by NEWVA for this team award and I am very proud of our group for their tremendous efforts in the classroom this past fall," said Kelsey. "This type of award speaks highly of the types of student-athletes we are fortunate enough to have as part of our program."
