North Adams, MA –– Fresh off of a busy NESCAC double-header the Ephs (4-4, 1-1) had a weekday away game in neighboring North Adams against the MCLA Trailblazers (2-11, 0-1).
The Ephs recorded solid statistics in tonight's match-up. Junior Ally Ostrow lead the Ephs offense with 10 kill and 37 attacks. Ostrow also recorded 11 digs for the Ephs and had a hitting percentage of .216%. The Ephs presented versatile hitting with 10 players recording kills. Sophomore setter Alex Newton proved to be an integral part of the Ephs offensive system contributing her steady setting skills. Junior Daiana Takashima earned 12 digs for the Ephs and also demonstrated critical serving ability with two service aces. Junior Mia Weinland also showed aggressive offensive play with 10 attacks and 5 kills. Junior Morgan Richman recorded 9 attacks, 4 kills, and a hitting percentage of .444% Junior Tess Richman posted 7 attacks, 4 kills, and a percentage of .429%.
First year Lauren Barry proved to be an exciting new addition with 9 total attacks, 6 kills, and a hitting percentage of .556%. First year Anna Wise recorded 6 digs for the Ephs and first year Ariana Altieri recorded three kills. First year Alicia Blanco was another bright new addition on the court. The Ephs energy was high in part due to the young talent in today's match. The first year cohort has proven to be a valuable addition to the group this season. The season will be a big opportunity for this young team to show off their versatility and passion.
The Ephs displayed impressive energy and swept the MCLA Trailblazers in three exciting sets. The set scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12. This match was a great opportunity for the Ephs to come together as a team while looking forward to the busy week ahead of them.
Head Coach of the Ephs Christi Kelsey remarked on tonight's match when she explained, "Tonight was the true meaning of a great team effort! We had the opportunity to play every single one of our players and there were so many great pieces and moments from not only each of them individually but also collectively with who was on the floor at any given time."
Coach Kelsey continued with enthusiasm when she added, "We are three weeks into the season and I could not be more proud of how our group continues to progress. We have a really great team chemistry and they continue to be driven every day to get better."
Coach Kelsey is excited to look forward to another busy week on the road. She noted, "We are looking forward to some exciting opportunities this weekend with playing Hamilton first on Friday as our next conference match. On Saturday we are looking forward to taking on two strong nonconference opponents in Ramapo and NYU down in New Jersey. I know that the team will be ready and we are looking forward to the road trip ahead!"
The Ephs are on the road this weekend with a Friday night match against NESCAC opponent Hamilton (3-2, 1-1) at 8:00PM on Friday. On Saturday, the Ephs will be at the Ramapo Invitational in New Jersey and will take on host Ramapo (8-2, 1-0) and NYU (3-10).
