WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Peter Hale's outstanding final season of track & field at Williams College has landed him on page 20 of the August 7th issue of Sports Illustrated magazine in the Faces in the Crowd section.
Hale won both the 3K at the 2017 NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships and then closed out his purple and gold career with a win in the 5K at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hale won the 3K in a time of 8:17.76 and then captured the 5k by finishing in 14:15.23.
Hale was four-time All-American for the Ephs earning track & field honors three times and once in cross country.
On February 8th running at Boston University Hale recorded the sixth fastest all-time NCAA DIII finish in the 3K with a time of 8:09.51. He was named the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Indoor Athlete of the Year.
Hale also won the 2017 DIII New England 5K title in a meet record time of 14:16.22. Additionally, Hale won the 1500m (3:50.42) and the 5K (14:51.23) at the 2017 NESCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, was fourth in NCAA 3,000 in 2016, and was a 2015 cross country All-American (16th). Hale has been named to the Academic All-NESCAC team six times.
A double major in history and English, Hales is a recipient of the prestigious national Fulbright Scholar honor and will teach in Germany during the next academic year.
Hale is the 44th Eph athlete (22 men/22 women) to appear in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd since August of 1989.
