WILLIMASTOWN, MA – Emily Sundquist (Salt lake City, Utah) a senior captain of both Williams cross country and track and field has been named to the Google Cloud Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America Third Team in a vote by the nation's NCAA DIII Sports Information Directors.
This marks the second time in her career that Sundquist has been named a Third Team Academic All-American, having been honored in 2016 as well.
"Emily, known appropriately as "Sunny", has a true love of learning and a keen intellect, a positive outlook, plus a competitive drive that with dedicated training earned her national-caliber performances in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track," stated Eph head women's cross country coach Pete Farwell. "She is the consummate embodiment of collegiate student-athlete."
"We are so happy for Sunny to earn this recognition," said Eph women's track and field head coach Nate Hoey. "Her entire career Emily has been an example of positive, consistent hard work, while supporting and lifting up her teammates. We are very proud of her."
Earlier this spring the Sports Information Directors in District I named Sundquist to the All District I First Team, elevating her to the All-America ballot.
Sundquist competed all three seasons at Williams: cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. This spring she was ranked as high as 16th nationally in the steeplechase, finished fourth in the New England DIII 5K, and placed fifth in the NESCAC steeplechase race.
Sundquist has competed in both the NCAA 5,000 and 10,000 in her career. She has also competed in the NCAA Cross Country Championships with her Eph team and as a sophomore she finished second in NESCAC in the 5K and the steeplechase. Her first year at Williams Sundquist came in second in the NESCAC steeplechase.
At the 2015 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championship race in Winnecone, Wisconsin Sundquist was the Ephs' fifth finisher (final scoring runner) helping Williams win the NCAA team title.
Sundquist is the 10th Eph woman to earn Academic All-America honors in cross country/track & field and she is one of 48 Eph Academic All-Americans since 1993.
