Current Job Title: Digital Media Manager, Paid Acquisition - Discovery Golf
For the past year, I've been helping grow the Discovery Golf Direct-to-Consumer business (part of Discovery, Inc. -- think Discovery Channel & Shark Week!) through all digital acquisition channels. Discovery Golf consists of our streaming service GOLFTV (available in every country except the United States) and Golf Digest. GOLFTV launched in January 2019 as the new global home of golf; through partnerships with Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari, live global PGA TOUR rights, and the entire Golf Digest Schools instructional content series, GOLFTV is a one-stop shop for golf fans of all levels globally. I am responsible for the acquisition strategy for both products including where we spend advertising dollars (which platforms, which countries, which regions) in order to garner more new subscribers.
Prior to working at Discovery, I worked at VaynerMedia for 3 years with fellow former Eph Sports Info employee Ben Allison '14 (as well as retired Eph athletes KC Murphy '13, Kelsey Adamson '16, and Matt Hogan '19, who also worked for Eph Sports Info), where I learned the ins and outs of the digital advertising landscape.
Williams graduation year: 2016
Sport(s) played at Williams: Volleyball
Degree you earned at Williams: B.A. History
How you got involved in Eph Sports Information: It was a sort of tradition for Eph volleyball players to work in Sports Information so once I learned the ropes from teammates Claire Miller '15 and Emily O'Day '15 I reached out to DQ! I had always been interested in a career in sports so was super excited to get involved in all things Eph Athletics!
What were your duties in Ephs Sports Information: I worked in the office for 3 years doing everything from writing game recaps for programs to editing roster photos and action photos. I was the official stat keeper for the softball team one spring and I wrote women's lacrosse game articles another spring.
Favorite Eph Sports Information memory: Keeping softball stats down at Cole Field in the early spring was no joke when the temperatures would get down in the 40s and rainy! My favorite memory was being all bundled up and being the resident DJs with my volleyball teammates and Kris Dufour -- he taught us all about Huey Lewis and The News! I also loved the Friday mornings I spent on the 4th floor of Hopkins with DQ and Kris hearing all sorts of legendary Eph Sports stories! I always hoped that one day DQ and Kris would tell legendary stories about the 2014 NCAA DIII Volleyball Elite 8 :)
Fun Fact: Ryan and teammate Claire Miller both did summer internships at Crisp Media in NYC to prepare for their current careers in the sports world.
