Carolyn Miles was named the first Coordinator of Student-Athlete Well-Being and Physical Education at Williams on April 25, 2012. “The search committee was impressed with Carolyn’s broad range of experience in physical education, intercollegiate athletics, and student life,” noted Athletic Director Lisa Melendy.

“Carolyn has been instrumental in adding offerings to the physical education programming at Sarah Lawrence, where she also worked with a campus wide group to develop a new orientation program called the First Year Experience,” Melendy noted. “I’m excited to have Carolyn bring her expertise to our department in serving both our student athletes and the broader student population. I’m also confident that she will serve as a valuable resource to our coaches as they help their athletes deal with the many issues, which they face.”

Primary responsibilities for the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Well-Being and Physical Education include the creation, implementation, and supervision of an educational program designed to support student-athlete well being, including extensive collaboration with campus wide departments; organizing the physical education activity class offerings, and physical education staff development; the teaching of Physical Education classes, and other administrative duties as assigned by the Chair.

Beginning with the 2014-15 academic year Miles was named the Club Sports Coordinator.

“I am thrilled to be joining the athletics and physical education department at Williams College,” Miles said. “Being given the opportunity to work on this new initiative at the college is a true honor.  I look forward to working with the athletes, coaches and members of the Williams community to create programs that focus on student wellness.”

At Sarah Lawrence College Miles has served as the Acting Athletic Director since 2010. She will be joining the Williams staff at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year.
Miles arrived at Sarah Lawrence in 2001 and served as the Gryphon’s aquatics director (until 2009) and as the head coach of the men’s and women’s crew teams before taking over as Acting Athletic Director.

Prior to arriving at Sarah Lawrence, Miles served as a novice crew coach at the University of New Hampshire from 1998-2001, leading the Wildcats to New England titles 1999-2001.

Miles graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/Physical Education-Pedagogy with a minor in Nutrition. In 2008 Miles earned a Master of Science Degree in Applied Physiology and Nutrition from Columbia University-Teachers College.
