“I am pleased to announce that Gillian McDonald has accepted the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Game Management at Williams,” said Jill Campbell, Assistant Athletic Director, Operations. “Gillian's experience at both The Sage Colleges and Hamilton College as an administrator in the areas she will oversee at Williams coupled with her coaching background give her a perspective that will serve the department well in this role.”
“The search committee found her adept communication and ability to build relationships across a diverse group impressive,” added Campbell. “Gillian's detail oriented and organized work style, along with her ability to anticipate issues, align well with the oversight of all Eph athletic facility scheduling and game management.
Gillian McDonald joined the Williams Athletics Department in the summer of 2019 from The Sage Colleges, where she was the head coach of field hockey and an Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations since 2017.
Prior to her time at The Sage Colleges McDonald was the head field hockey coach and an assistant professor of physical education at Hamilton College. She is the winningest field hockey coach in Hamilton history.
At Hamilton McDonald was also in charge of game management for the Continental’s home men’s and women’s ice hockey games.
McDonald began her coaching career right after graduating from Bowdoin College, when she served as an assistant field hockey coach at the University of Rochester 2004-05 and also served as an assistant women’s ice hockey coach at Rochester Institute of Technology during the same time frame.
McDonald is a 2004 graduate of Bowdoin College, where she lettered in both field hockey and ice hockey for the Polar Bears and earned a B.A. in French with a minor in Education. In 2008 she earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management, Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Cortland.
