Williamstown, MA—Senior K.K. Krieg scored
the lone goal in today's conference game against Bates College,
giving the Ephs a 1-0 win and ending their 3 game loosing streak.
The Bates College Bobcats now hold a 5-4-1 record while the Ephs
improved their record to 6-3.
Williams controlled play for most of the 1st half but only had 3
shots and few scoring opportunities. Then, with 23:10 left in the
2nd half, Charolette VanWagenen dribbled up the right side and
crossed the ball to K.K. Krieg for a one-timer.
The Ephs continued to pressure the Bobcats defense, racking up 13
shots and 11 penalty corners in the 2nd half alone. Upperclassmen,
Meighan McGowan, Taylor Wilson-hill, and Carolina Jolly all stood
out in both possessing and passing the ball, giving the Ephs many
more scoring opportunities than in the 1st half.
Sophomore Lindsey Jones played the entire game for Williams,
making 2 saves, while Freshman Katie McEnroe played goal for Bates,
making 11 saves. Williams out shot the Bobcats, 16-4 and had 14
penalty corners to Bates' 1.
Williams' head coach Alix Rorke was pleased with the outcome of
today's game, "we needed this win today…it showed that we
responded to the pressure (of the teams recent losses) well", she
said. Coach Rorke was also happy with the teams ability to keep
their composure, especially in the last 2 minutes of the game, when
Bates had a few quick breaks and opportunities, "we held it
together at the end", said coach Rorke.
The Ephs will be facing Colby tomorrow on Renzie Lamb field at
11am. "Colby will not be easy"; said Coach Rorke; the Ephs went
into overtime in last year's victory against Colby.
