Hartford, CT—Trinity's Carrie
Wolcott scored the game winning goal with 3:47 left in play to edge
the Trinity Bantams over Williams College 3-2. This dropped the
14th nationally ranked Williams College field hockey team to a 5-3
record, while Trinity improved their record to 5-2.
Williams controlled play for most of the game, out shooting and
having more penalty corners (15 to 6) than the Bantams. Sally Cobb
scored from a pass by Cary Bearn with 17:36 left in the game. Cary
Bearn then notched her third point of the game; scoring with 12:26
left in the 2nd half (assisted by Whitney Thayer).
The Ephs were confident and held a 2-0 lead until 24:74 into the
2nd half when Trinity's Lyndsey Waddington scored. Christina
Bradley then tied up the game with 4:15 left. 68 seconds later,
Carrie Wolcott scored the game winning goal.
The Ephs rallied at the end of the 2nd half but could not tie up
the game.
Head Coach Alix Rorke was disappointed in the teams' ability
to play their best during the entire game, “we played great
until 7 minutes left in the game…we need to finish”,
said Coach Rorke.
“Trinity took advantage of their scoring
opportunities…they were very dangerous on the fast break and
their goalie had a great game”, said Coach Rorke.
Sophomore Jillian Fraker played in goal for Trinity, while Bethany
Baker played all 70 minutes for Williams.
Williams will be looking to make some adjustments in their mental
game for the upcoming weekend, “we need to get back on track
and not panic when the other team scores…we're going
to work on that for Bates and Colby”, said Coach Rorke.
Williams will return to Renzie-Lamb Field for their next two
games. They will play Bates at 12 pm on Saturday the 6th, and Colby
at 11am on the 7th.
