Middlebury, VT – The Ephs began Day Two of the Middlebury
Invitational in fifth place with a round one score of 345. While
the slick greens at the Ralph Myhre Course (par 71 - 5,880 yds) had
been problematic for Saturday, the team would have to cope with the
withdrawal of junior Anne O'Leary who had posted one of the
lowest scores (85) the previous day.
Despite the loss of O'Leary, the Ephs managed to remain just
in side the top five with a score of 338 for Sunday shaving off
nearly ten shots off of yesterday's team score of 345.
Juniors Mary Gelber and Kristen Nottebohm contributed six (86-80)
and ten (98-88) stroke improvements respectively from their first
round scores. Kristen Tubbs, a freshman, also reduced her score
from an 89 to an 85. Senior Melissa Barton repeated her earlier
performance with another 85 for the day.
The Ephs' overall team score of 683 allowed them to remain
in fifth place for the Invitational. The hosts Middlebury claimed
the top spot both in competition (648) with Amherst (667) surging
forward to claim second with solid second round of play. Mount
Holyoke dropped to third after the second round with a total score
of 673 and St. Lawrence's 677 resulted in fourth place for
the university.
“[We] have a decent shot at finishing the fall season
well,” remarked Coach Herman, looking toward to the final
tournament of the fall season. The team will finish out this season
by hosting the Williams Fall Classic at the Taconic Golf Club. The
competition is set to tee off on Saturday October 12th at noon.
