CLINTON, NY -- The struggles of the Williams women's ice hockey
team continue as the Ephs lose their fourth game of the
season at Hamilton by a score of 4-2. This places
Williams (0-4-1) at the bottom of the NESCAC conference alongside
the winless Wesleyan, while Hamilton improves to 4-1-0.
The situation seemed dismal when Hamilton forward Amy Allen '10
netted her third goal of the year on the power-play at 5:23 in the
first period. But a lucky bounce early in the second led to
an unassisted short-handed goal by Ephs junior defenseman Kait
O'Brien, her third of the season, knotting the score at a goal a
piece.
Williams allowed things to unravel quickly in the midway through
the period however, as a pair of even-strength goals by Continental
junior defenseman Louise Roy (her first at 8:01) and sophomore
forward Christie Sharlow (her third and the game-winner at 11:51)
put them out in front for good.
Tracey Ferriter '10, the Ephs leading scorer, gave her team hope
with her third goal of the year with :24 left in the second.
But Hamilton's leading scorer, sophomore forward Stephanie Miguel
finished off their opponent with her fourth goal. Miguel also
had assists on each of the other three Hamilton goals, giving her
11 points on the season.
Williams will resume their season this Friday at home, hoping
that they can rally behind their fans to find that elusive first
win. They will have to do so against an undefeated Amherst
team, in a game that is sure to be hard-fought and physical.
Face-off is at 7pm.
