Saratoga Springs, N.Y.- Despite starting seven seniors, the Williams field hockey team was unable to capitalize on their experience and fell 4-1 to Skidmore College, after being outshot 9-12.

Sophomore netminder Katrina Tulla had a busy day at the office in her first collegiate start, and conceded her first goal in the seventeenth minute of play, as Skidmore freshman Annie Rosencrans scored on a deflection assisted by Carolyne McManama after a penalty corner.

The Eph defense was again outplayed at a penalty corner as McManama set up Elise Britt who slotted past Tulla in goal.  The Thoroughbreds further extended their lead in the 42nd minute when Christine Kemp drove unchallenged down the left wing and put the ball in the back of the net.

Hesitation cost the Ephs in the second half, as they managed to keep the ball but were unable to finish numerous promising moves. Senior All-American Jess Overlander finally broke through to score after being set up by First Team All-NESCAC Meighan McGowan to cut the deficit to two.

That was all the Ephs could muster though, as they failed to convert any of their six penalty corners, and they were made to pay as Kemp calmly dispatched a penalty stroke to the bottom left corner to seal the win for the Thoroughbreds in the 70th minute.

Tulla and Skidmore netminder Liz Catinella both finished with six saves on the day.  Both squads were even on corners with six each.

A disappointing start to the season for the talented Ephs, and it's back to the drawing board for the team as they look to regroup, produce a stronger performance and improve their record against Bates on September 13.
