WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College men's
swimming and diving team (4-3) placed first today in a joint match
against Wesleyan (208-79) and Tufts (161.5-138.5).
“The team was tired, but we had a very good week of
work,” said head coach Steve Kuster. “We were pushed to
do our best today.”
The Ephs posted solid numbers across the boards. Sophomore Gary
Roberson picked up a win in the 1650yard freestyle (16:36.34) and
placed second in the 100 and 500yard freestyle races (48.44,
4:49.99). Senior teammate Norman Scott placed first in the 500
freestyle (4.46.42) and 100yard backstroke (53.20).
In the 200yard butterfly, Williams took the top three spots.
Senior Tim Ryan (1:59.29), freshman John Guiffre (2:01.94), and
junior Eddie Layng (2:02.01) quickly pushed past contenders from
Wesleyan and Tufts.
Ephs Tyler Bonewell and David Lebovitz, both seniors, also did
very well today. Bonewell came in first for the 200yard
breaststroke (2:10.79) and came in close second in both the 200yard
individual medley and 100yard breast (59.95). Lebovitz won the
200yard freestyle (1:47.24) and ended just behind teammate Sam Blum
('10) in the 200 backstroke (1.59.06).
According to coach Kuster, “We were down in the beginning.
This was a time when the team responded very well without any my
motivation, and came out on top.”
The Ephs next face Springfield on the 24th at 1PM.
