Williamstown, MA - the Williams College men and women's swimming and diving teams cruised past Connecticut College in their first home contest of the season. The team clinched first place victories in 26 out of 30 total events, winning 211-118 and 227-102 respectively against the Camels. Freshman standout Caroline Wilson broke a pool record, posting an impressive 10:05.75 in the women's 1000-yard freestyle race.

Williams started off the meet with sophomore Abbie Deal taking the 50-yard backstroke (29.11). After losing a bit of momentum in events two and three, freshman Chris Corbett and sophomore Logan Todhunter helped redeem the Ephs, earning top spots in the 50-yard breaststroke (27.79) and butterfly (25.57). Corbett also picked up wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke (1:00.62, 2:10.07) and 400 IM (4:15.03), while Todhunter also won the 50-yard freestyle (24.40).

In addition to Wilson's record-breaking performance in event seven, senior Christina Metcalf and sophomore Lauren Metcalf-Kral placed second and third with times of 10:48.25 and 10:59.12. In the men's 1000 free, freshman Paul Dyrkacz came in at 9:50.97 closely followed by teammates John Armstrong (9:58.52) and DJ Taylor (9:58.82). Junior Gary Roberson also picked up a pair of wins for the Ephs, posting 1:43.95 in the 200 and 4:48.66 in the 500-yard freestyle.

In an overall great day of competition for Williams, the diving team took victories in all four diving bouts. Senior Kera McClelland earned a score of 252.60 in the 1-meter dive and sophomore Alex Long earned 262.35. Both then dominated in the 3-meter dive, posting scores of 235.65 and 259.50.

Competition for the Ephs will resume on January 9, 2010 when they will travel to rival Amherst. Races will begin at 4PM.
