Williamstown, MA -- The Williams men's swim team ended their regular season with a convincing win over the Middlebury Panthers 175-122. The Ephs (7-2) battled hard to send their seniors out with a win in a meet, which saw multiple momentum changes.

In the first men's event, Middlebury out-touched the Williams Medley Relay by 6 hundreths of a second for the win. However, the Ephs responded fiercely by claiming 8 of 9 top three spots in the next three events, including 1-2-3 finishes in the 200 and 1650 Freestyles.

On Senior Day, the Ephs performance was spearheaded by standout freshmen Paul Dyrkacz and Phil Treesh. Dyrkacz  had victories in the 200 Back ( 1:56.70 ) and 200 Free ( 1:45.39) while Treesh  won the 100 Backstroke in 54.06 and had a solid third place finish in the 500 Free.

Chris Corbett contributed with a win in the 400 IM (4:12.27) and second in the 200 Free. Coach Kuster noted that he was pleased by senior Eddie Layng's 2:00.73 performance in the 200 Fly.

With the victory, the Ephs finished undefeated in Division III meets, largely due to their resilience and grit. As Ephs head coach Steve Kuster put it: “The men had to scratch and claw their way through the Division III dual meet season because they are not as deep as the women's team, but they did it without suffering a loss.” The Eph men finished 7-2 overall on the year with both losses coming at the hands of Division I teams.

Panther highlights included John Dillon's National “B” time of 1:54.44 in winning the 200 Fly and sweeping the 100 Free. Nick Daly won the 100 Fee in 48.80, Schuyler Beeman took second and Jay Li claimed third.

The Ephs will hit the road next weekend to compete at the Middlebury Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
