Mens Squash Goes 1-1 On Opening Day

CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Williams Men's Squash team (1-1) got off to a tough start of its 2010 campaign, losing to the Harvard Crimson 8-1, but followed with a solid 9-0 win over the Tufts Jumbos.

Julian Drobetsky ('13) was the lone victor against Harvard at the seven spot defeating fellow sophomore Alex Ma in a closely fought four game match. First year Taylor Foehl got off to a promising start, winning his first game but could not finish the job. Senior co-captain Will Gruner ('11)  fought defending BU19 national champion Brandon McLaughlin hard, winning the first game and dropping three close ones after that. Adnan Khan ('12) won an impressive five game exhibition match at the 12 spot.

"I thought the team played very well today. I especially enjoyed watching Julian win and Adnan's first collegiate match. I think we still have a lot to improve upon but we're on the right track", said head coach Zafi Levy on his team's contest against the #5 ranked Crimson.

The Ephs turned right around and followed the Harvard loss with an impressive performance against Tufts. Williams won all of its matches 3-0 except for at the number one position where Will Morris battled Alex Gross, eventually earning a 3-1 win.

Assistant coach Blair Dils commented after the match, "it is hard to go into the match as a favorite, but it was good to see almost all of them win 3-0, especially after the close matches they had with Harvard".

Williams will be back in action on Friday, December 3rd when they will take on the twelve time National Champions Trinity Bantams, followed by Franklin and Marshall at the Simon Squash Center in Williamstown. Match times are scheduled for 4:00 and 7:00, respectively.
