Men's Squash Sweeps Weekend

The Williams Men's Squash team played a stellar weekend of squash, taking the Little Three title and a win in their first ever meeting with Columbia.

Williams traveled to Wesleyan for the Little Three Championships Sunday with the pressure of having won the title twelve years in a row. Playing Wesleyan in their first of two matches, only two Ephs dropped games. Andy Maruca jumped out to a 2-0 lead before dropping the fourth. He would go on to win 14-12 in the fourth game, finishing off the match. Will Morris needed five games to win at the number one position. Morris fell behind 2-1 but fought back, eventually winning the fifth game convincingly and giving the Ephs a 9-0 victory.

It was a similar story in the Amherst match. Andy Maruca was pushed again but won in four, as did Morris. The rest of the lineup played flawless squash and won 3-0 to take their thirteenth consecutive Little Three title.

Williams then traveled to the Big Apple for their first ever match with Columbia University. Columbia was tough at the top. Taylor Foehl needed four games to take out his opponent at the number three position. Kevin Chen won his first two games but let his opponent back in by losing the third and fourth games. Chen turned in a dominating performance in the fifth to close out the match. Will Morris won in three close games at the top. Nick Greaves-Tunnell fell behind 2-1 at the number nine position but recovered well to take the match. Jared Zuckerman was the only Eph to lose on the weekend, losing in five closely contested games.

Williams will travel to Trinity next weekend for the NESCAC Championships.
