Williams shuts out Hamilton 2-0

CLINTON, NY—Williams field hockey (5-3, 3-2 NESCAC) took down Hamilton (0-8, 0-6 NESCAC) on Tuesday night, 2-0.

Rallying back after a tough loss to nationally ranked Skidmore, the Ephs came out strong against Hamilton and proceeded to control play throughout the game. Williams outshot Hamilton 23-4, with Eph goalie Ariana Spiliotes (Bethesda, MD) tallying her fourth shutout of the season.

The Eph offense was led in the first half by sophomores Cary Hairfield (Richmond, VA) and Caitlin Conlon (Sudbury, MA). Hairfield and Conlon combined for 9 of the 16 Williams shots on goal. In a 30 second window in the first half Hairfield and Conlon teamed up to fire 4 shots at Hamilton goalie Victoria Trentini. Trentini, who had 14 saves on the day, was able to stop three of these shots, but eventually succumbed to the Eph attack as Hairfield scored the first goal for the Ephs at 9:19. Less than three minutes later, at 11:56, a shot by Conlon found the back of the cage, putting the Ephs up 2-0.

The Ephs remained aggressive in the second half, firing 14 shots against Hamilton. However, Williams was unable to add to their goals from the first half.

The Ephs will be back in action against perennial rival Amherst in Amherst on Saturday at 11:00am.
