Williams falls to Amherst 3-2

AMHERST, MA— Despite and early lead, Williams field hockey could not stop a come from behind push by Amherst on Saturday, falling to the Lord Jeffs 3-2. This drops the Ephs to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Amherst controlled the ball for the majority of the game on Saturday, holding Williams to just 4 shots in the first half. However, Williams was effective when they did attack. Eph freshman Annie VanWagenen (Rye, NY) found the back of the cage off an assist by Caitlin Conlon at 22:35. Just a minute and a half later VanWagenen scored another for the Ephs, putting Williams up 2-0. While Williams remained ahead 2-0 going into the half, the Lord Jeffs continued to pressure the Ephs by firing off 10 shots against the Eph defense in the first half.

The Lord Jeffs came out strong after the break with Krista Zsitvay scoring just over a minute into the second half. Building on her team's control of play Amherst's Kerry Fusco scored off an assist by Ellie Anderson at 49:16. Madeline Tank tallied a third goal for Amherst assisted by Katie McMahon at 61:33.

Williams goalie Ariana Spiliotes (Bethesda, MD) put in a phenomenal effort to lead the Eph defense for all 70:00 of play. Spiliotes had 14 saves on the day. Amherst keeper faced 4 shots on goal, posting 2 saves for the game.
