BRUNSWICK, ME—Williams field hockey (5-5, 3-5 NESCAC) fell to Bowdoin (8-1, 5-1 NESCAC) on Sunday, 3-0.
Bowdoin got on the scoreboard early with a goal by Brooke Phinney at 7:59 followed by a goal by Cathleen Smith at 14:16. Bowdoin outshot the Ephs 18-0 in the first half. Williams was unable to challenge Bowdoin's goals and the game went into the half with Bowdoin leading 2-0.
The second half was more closely contested between the Ephs and the Polar Bears. Williams tallied 7 shots after the break, while Bowdoin fired off 9. A shot by Bowdoin's Adrienne O'Donnell found the back of the cage midway through the half, putting Bowdoin up 3-0. Bowdoin outshot Williams 27-7 on the day and held an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Williams goalie Ariana Spiliotes (Bethesda, MD) had 13 saves for the game. Eph sophomore Jaclyn Porfilio added a defensive stop. Bowdoin's Kayla Lessard had 4 saves.
The Ephs will match up against Union College on Thursday October 11th at 6:00pm.
