Springfield, MA- The Williams College wrestling team, wrestling in their first of three matches on the weekend, fell to Springfield on Saturday. Springfield, ranked 11th nationally and 2nd in New England, over powered Williams on route to a 48-6 victory.
Williams did not put a enter a full compliment of wrestlers and was forced to forfeit three matches. Notable wresters not competing for Williams were Junior Co-Captain Ces Antista(Matawan, NJ), who is ranked 9th nationally and 1st in New England, and Senior Co-Captain Nikola Mirkovic (Ridgewood, NJ) who is ranked 7th in New England.
The lone Eph victory of the day was earned by Tom Foote (Dunbarton, NH). Foote, who has sat towards the top of the polls all season entered the match ranked 10th nationally and 2nd in New England. Today, Foote competed against John Gabordi. On paper this was supposed to be a clash of Titians because Gabordi was ranked 3rd in New England. Foote was up to the challenge and earned a victory by pinfall with seven seconds left in the second period.
The Ephs have only hours off until they take to the mats in their final home meet on Sunday. Williams will be wrestling against Oswego State and Southern Maine. The Ephs first match will be against Oswego State at 3:00pm.
