HARTFORD-- The Williams Men's Squash team gave 13 times
defending national champion Trinity everything they had Sunday, but
fell yet again in the NESCAC final.
Alec Greaves-Tunnell and Julian
Drobetsky each came tantalizingly close to pulling off huge
individual upsets, but each lost in five games. Drobetsky found
himself down 2-0 before pulling himself out of the hole and winning
the next two. Down 10-7 in the deciding game, he continued to
fight, getting within one poing of forcing extra points, but would
fall 11-9. After jumping out to a 2-1 lead, Greaves-Tunnell found
himself down 10-6 in the fourth game but was able to fight off four
game points to climb back to 10-10. He would eventually lose the
fourth game 14-12, and then the fifth 11-7.
Nick Marks also turned in a strong performance, losing in four
tremendously close games. Marks jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead in
the third game, with the match knotted at 1-1, but was not able to
finish the job. His opponent caught fire in the fourth game, which
turned out to be too much for Marks to overcome.
Senior co-captain Mike Pizzi and Kai Graham each
fought hard but lost in five in the exhibition matches.
Williams faces a crucial home test next Saturday when St.
Lawerence University comes to town. The match will have important
seeding implications for the National Championship in Princeton the
following week. Match time is set for 4 PM.
