Ephs fall to Wesleyan, 0-3

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Williams field hockey team (2-2, 1-2 NESCAC) fell to the Wesleyan Cardinals (2-3, 2-2 NESCAC) 0-3 in a home game on Saturday.

Despite a strong performance by Ariana Spiliotes (Bethesda, MD) in goal, the Ephs were unable to stall Wesleyan's offensive tide.  Cardinal sophomore Mackey Hemphill scored at 20:22 in the first half, assisted by junior midfield Blair Ingraham.  Junior Taylor Wells made her first goal of the season at 28:13, assisted by senior Averill Roberto.  Although the Ephs pushed back hard after halftime, earning several hard-fought penalty corners, Cardinal first-year Hannah Plappert scored her team's third goal at 65:33 in an unassisted shot.

Williams earned four penalty corners to Wesleyan's six. Emily Jablonski (Madison, CT) and Caitlin Conlon (Sudbury, MA) both made two of Williams' seven shots on goal.  On the Wesleyan side, Plappert made three of her team's twelve shots on goal.

Spiliotes made nine saves, while Wesleyan goalkeeper and co-captain Tori Redding made seven saves.  Both played the entire game.

"We just weren't connecting today.  We struggled on defense in the first half, and Wesleyan came out on fire against us.  That said, Ariana made some unbelievable saves, and we did step it up in the second.  Hopefully we can learn from today and use it in our game tomorrow,"  says head coach Alix Barrale.

The Ephs will next play against Connecticut College in a home game at 1pm on Sunday.
