COMPLETE RESULTS
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College men's swimming & diving team won their second meet of this season on Saturday at their Muir-Samuelson pool.
Williams (2-0) defeated Union College 205-88. In their last competition before Thanksgiving break, the men won all events except the 100 butterfly and the diving events.
In the 200-medley relay, the quartet of Alex McCarter '16, Jake Tamposi '16, Thad Ricotta '15, and Grant Johnson '17 clocked a 1:35.25 en route to a first place. Immediately following, Adrien Downey '15 captured first in the 1000-yard freestyle with 10:09.84.
The Ephs swept the 200-yard freestyle, with junior Christian Gronbeck, Tamposi, and Junior Chris Weihs posting a 1:44.95, 1:45.75, 1:46.56, respectively. Rookie Colin Hogan '17 first in the 100 yard backstroke with a blistering 53.71.
The men saw a standout performance from junior Thad Ricotta, who posted a 1:55.83 in the 200-yard butterfly, edging out Zach Wahl from Union by a second. The Ephs also captured first and third in the 50 yard freestyle, with Johnson charging from behind to win the event in 21.70. Rookie Ben Lin came in third at 22.30.
In the 500 yard freestyle, the men convincingly swept the event, behind solid swims from Gronbeck, Ricotta, and Tamposi at 4:43.60, 4:48.52, 4:49.64, respectively.
In the 400 yard IM, Gronbeck touched out sophomore Knox Young for first at 4:14.81. Hogan also posted a solid performance, crusing to third at 4:18.93.
In the final relay of the day, the Eph quartet of McCarter, Johnson, sophomore John Hammond, and Nels Synder '17 charged to first with a 1:27.32, a slight improvement over the relay's mark from last week.
"I thought we've been productive in the water during these first three weeks," said Head Coach Steven Kuster. "I like how we are racing and competing through the first two meets."
"We are starting to showcase some of our depth, but it is also evident the areas where we need some attention," said Kuster. "It's been a good start, but we still have a lot of work to do this semester."
The men will return to competition on Saturday, December 7th at Boston College.
