Men's Squash Finishes 1-1 at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY-- The Williams men's squash team finished their pre-Winter Break schedule on Saturday with a win and a loss against Colby and St. Lawrence. 

Williams started the day against the Mules at the neutral site. Varun Sharma lost his first game but would come back to win the next three, including a 13-11 decision in the fourth game to seal the match. Tyler Conroy and Ryan Eagan also each dropped a game en route to four game victories. 

Galen Squiers was the lone Eph to lose, with the rest of the squad able to win in three games. 

Williams then took on the fast improving St. Lawrence Saints, who should be able to contend for a national championship this year. Kevin Chen turned in the performance of the day at number two for Williams. Chen fell behind 2-0 but proved his fitness, coming back to beat his highly skilled opponents in five games. Other notable performances include Kai Graham and Michael Petrick, who each lost in four games. 

"I was much happier with the way the team played this weekend against Yale, St. Lawrence and Colby, " commented head coach Zafi Levy, "Yale and St. Lawrence are two of the best teams in the country, and everybody fought hard which is what we want to see."

Williams will now wait to play a month until their next match, Harvard on Jan. 7 at home.
