LEWISTON, ME -- The Williams men's squash team suffered another frustrating loss on Saturday, falling to rival Bates 6-3.
Kevin Chen got Williams off to a great start with a 3-0 win at the number three position. Sophomore Galen Squiers played some of his best squash of the season to earn another 3-0 win at number nine, which gave the Ephs a 2-1 lead.
Andy Maruca got off to an excellent start at number five, winning his first two games, but he would go on to lose the final three, giving Bates a 3-2 lead after Chris Wilkinson lost at number two.
After Jamie Ruggiero fell at number one, Williams needed to take the final three matches to win. Ryan Eagan got the job done at number eight with a swift three game win. Taylor Foehl split his first two games and then fell behind 2-1, only to force a fifth. An early deficit in the fifth was too much to overcome, giving Bates their fifth and clinching point. Tyler Conroy, who lost in four games, was last to finish at number seven.
Williams will continue their roadtrip tomorrow morning at Bowdoin, and will finish it with a match against Conn College, also at Bowdoin.
