WILLIAMSTOWN-- The Williams men's squash team turned in a nice performance on Saturday, beating the Middlebury Panthers 6-3.
Williams started off with a quick 3-0 win at the number six position from Kai Graham, followed by a 3-1 win at number three from senior co-captain Taylor Foehl.
Taking a 2-1 lead into the second round of matches, Jamie Ruggiero and Galen Squiers continued the momentum for the Ephs. Ruggiero lost his first game but recovered to win the next three, while Squiers turned in a smooth 3-0 performance at number 8.
Tyler Conroy trailed Williamstown native Ben Krant 2-0, but showed tremendous resiliency in battling back to give Williams their fifth and deciding point. Chris Wilkinson also won an impressive five game match to give the Ephs their sixth point. Wilkinson held a 2-1 lead but needed a fifth to close the match out.
"I'm very happy with how the boys played today," commented head coach Zafi Levy. "We played against a very good Middlebury team with a lot of good, young players in their lineup. To beat them 6-3, almost all of them close matches, is a good sign for our program."
Williams will travel to New York City to take on a much-improved Columbia team tomorrow afternoon.
