NEW HAVEN-- The Williams men's squash team finished its trip to Yale University 1-1, following a 7-2 win over George Washington on Friday, and a 9-0 loss to Franklin and Marshall on Saturday.
The Ephs were solid on Friday, particularly at the bottom of the lineup. Williams got strong performances from the 5-9 slots in the order. Andy Maruca, Kai Graham, Galen Squiers, Tyler Conroy, and Varun Sharma each played solid squash en route to 3-0 wins.
Kevin Chen and Chris Wilkinson earned impressive 3-0 victories at numbers 2 and 3, respectively. Jamie Ruggiero fell behind 2-0 but battled back to force a fourth and fifth game. Battling injury, Ruggiero fell just short in the fifth game.
On Saturday, Williams squared off against a talented Franklin and Marshall team. Though no Ephs were able to win a match, Kevin Chen and Nick Greaves-Tunnell each were able to earn a game. Greaves-Tunnell fell behind 2-0 but won the third and then knotted the fourth game at 8-8, but could get no further. Chen lost his first game but jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second and would go on to win 11-7.
Williams will travel to Amherst tomorrow for their annual Little Three event with Wesleyan and the Lord Jeffs. The Ephs have never lost the event, but will face much improved Wesleyan and Amherst squads. First up will be Wesleyan at 1:00, followed by Amherst at 3:00.
