Ephs Capture Victory Over Brown Bears 6-3

Willimastown, MA -- The Williams men played great squash in order to upset the higher-ranked Brown Bears (13th) at the Simon Squash Center late last night. The Ephs entered the match ranked 15th nationally.

The first round of matches proved to the crowd that the entire contest would be a nail-biter, as all three Ephs split the first two games. John Shuck '17 (#6) was then able to cruise to victory by capturing the next two, but unfortunately Chris Wilkinson '15 (#3) was defeated, despite giving a great effort. The round was highlighted by Nick Greaves-Tunnell's '15 (#9) outstanding performance on court three. After being down 7-2 in the fifth game, he played great squash and showed outstanding mental toughness in order to come back and capture the victory 11-9.

The second round of matches was also very close. Kevin Chen '15 (#2) dropped the first game, but showed compsure and confidence by easily winning the next three games. On the middle court, Galen Squiers '16 (#5) dropped the first two games, but then captured the next three in a marathon match that lasted over an hour. Unfortunately for the Ephs, Jamie Havran '18 (#8) was defeated despite playing great squash and taking his opponent to five games. This brought the match score to 4-2, giving the Ephs three chances to capture the match.

In the final round, Jamie Ruggiero '17 (#1) defeated his opponent in three games to secure the match for the Ephs. Michael Petrick '16 (#7) also won in a close four games, although Kai Graham '15 (#4) lost in four games. Varun Sharma '16 (#10) also won the exhibition match in five games.

The Ephs take on Drexel today, followed by the Little Three Championships at Wesleyan on Sunday.
