Ephs Fall to Two Top-10 Foes in Philadelphia

The Williams Men traveled south from Princeton to finish the weekend with matches against Drexel and Penn. Once again, David Pincus '19 (#6) showed great composure, and was able to win the first two games against his Drexel opponent before his opponent defaulted. In addition, the Ephs got strong efforts from the three seniors in the lineup. Co-captain Michael Petrick '16 (#4), Co-captain Galen Squiers '16 (#5), and Varun Sharma '16 (#7) all managed to take a game off of their opponents. Overall, it was a good effort on the road against an extremely challenging opponent. 

Immediately after the match concluded, the Ephs traveled a few blocks over to Penn, where they prepared for what they knew would be abother difficult match. Penn had an extremely experienced and talented lineup throughout, and was able to sweep the Ephs. The bright spot of the day for the Ephs was Jamie Havran '18 (#9), who took his opponent to a close five games, before losing 11-8 in the fifth game. Coach Levy was impressed by the way Jamie played. He did not let the environment or reputation of his opponent phase him, and stepped onto the court and gave a great performance. It would've been nice if he could've pulled off the win, but there's nothing more we can ask for this early in the season. 

The Ephs now have three weeks of training on campus before they head to California for a week of training and a match against the Stanford Men. After that, they enter January with a full slate of NESCAC matches.
